Classic Cocktail Challenge

While at Mapal, in 2024 I designed The Classic Cocktail Challenge, which is a fun and competitive quiz designed to test learners’ knowledge of crafting four classic drinks.

I led the art direction and production, crafting a vibrant aesthetic that combines bright pastels, tropical foliage, florals, art-deco details, and pop art collages.

My pitch was “Pop art meets Wes Anderson at a tropical bar,” and the result is a visually dynamic experience that perfectly complements the lively nature of the quiz.

As there was no budget for custom photography, to bring the quiz to life I used generative AI in crafting my graphics for the multiple-choice answers. Recognising the ethical concerns surrounding AI in design, I used Adobe Firefly, which is trained on licensed Adobe Stock imagery, ensuring transparency and respect for creators’ rights.

I admit I have mixed feelings on the topic, as I wish to embrace the potential of AI tools but struggle to reconcile some ethical concerns with how some of the most powerful tools are trained, and especially how corporations use them.
